A message from Congressperson Karen Bass on the recent United States government shutdown.
Last night, instead of focusing on creating jobs and rebuilding the middle class, tea party conservatives insisted upon denying access to health care to millions of Americans. As a result, the government shut down for the first time in 17 years.
Thousands of Californians are already being affected by a lack of government funds—and the impact will likely worsen if Republicans don’t not drop their unreasonable demands. If you have questions about how the shutdown may affect you, visit bass.house.gov/shutdown for the latest updates.
Luckily, in spite of Republicans’ uncompromising obstruction, California’s health exchange is set to open today. Visit coveredca.com to learn more about the new plans and enroll. Still have questions about getting healthcare insurance? Call 1(800) 300-1506 or visit Covered California’s Frequently Asked Questions.
As always, if you have comments or concerns, please call my office at (323) 965-1422.
I look forward to hearing from you,
Congressmember Karen Bass
