[Call to Action] West Adams Oil Drilling Update

Yesterday, the City Council Planning and Land Use Committee voted to recommend a yes vote to City Council on the following two motions: Motion #1 and Motion #2.  Read more here: Moratorium on fracking OK’d by LA City Council committee (SCPR.ORG).

The full City Council will vote on this THIS FRIDAY Feb 28 @ 10am (see flyer English | Español). This motion is an important step towards a moratorium for the most extreme and aggressive types of oil drilling and related activities in Los Angeles, including at our Murphy Site. Although there may not be a public comment section for the motions, it will be important that residents like us who actually live by the drill sites and are most impacted by them, are present this Friday. For parking information: http://gsd.lacity.org/parking/parking.htm (see visitor parking section).

THIS SATURDAY, Mar 1st from 9:30am-12noon at the California Science Center, Senator Holly Mitchell will talk about urban oil drilling and her Statewide Moratorium bill:

On TUESDAY, MARCH 4th from 7pm-9pm at the LA 84 Foundation, there will be a community training with independent scientists and oil experts on the more scientific and technical aspects of oil production at the Murphy Site. This will be in preparation for the large community meeting to be organized by City Council President Herb Wesson’s Office, where community members will have the opportunity to ask questions and engage directly with the oil company, Freeport-McMoRan Oil & Gas (FMOG).
