Brief Description of Ministry / Committee / Board:
The Children and Youth Ministry is designed for young people from kindergarten through twelfth grade. This ministry encompasses a myriad of activities that help children and youth on their journey as disciples of Jesus Christ. Our purpose is to provide a ministry of opportunities to children and youth that will foster their spiritual growth, nurture their faith, and connect them to all areas of the church in an age appropriate manner and setting. The ministry is also designed to represent and advocate for a ministry that is by children and youth, for children and youth and with children and youth in mind. The goal of this ministry is to continue and improve communication between all of the congregational groups and ministries that work with children and youth as well as with their parents, grandparents and other caregivers of children and youth in order to provide more growth and development in ministry.
2012 Accomplishments (Activities, etc.):
♦ Coordinated activities between all ministries involving Holman’s children and youth including Cherub Choir, Voices of Harmony, Sunday School, Junior Usher Board, Acolytes, Liturgists, Nursery, Liturgical Dancers, Summer Camp, Confirmation, Vacation Bible School and more.
♦ Coordinated with Pastoral staff and worship committee as it related to incorporating children and youth into the worship service and special presentations.
♦ Worked with Sunday School on overall program and special presentations (i.e. Dinner Theaters for Easter and Christmas).
♦ Coordinated activities that brought families together to enjoy new and not-so-new experiences: two youth dances and a games/desert night.
♦ Continual outreach to Holman and community members with children/youth by encouraging them to get involved in various Holman ministries and activities for young people.
♦ Coordinated meetings with parents, grandparents and caregivers of children to inform them about activities, encourage their participation and obtain feedback on how to improve the overall children and youth ministry.
♦ Participated in various meetings with the Pastoral staff to address direction, needs and assistance of children and youth ministry.
The success (accomplishments) of this ministry can be seen through the continued growth in attendance and participation by our children and youth in the all of the ministries listed in the first bullet above. Lots of new faces have joined the choirs, Jr. Ushers, Liturgical Dancers as well as performers in the dinner theater performances.
