Formed in 1962 as a service club, the Beta Chapter voted in 1986 to expand its outreach to include recognition of Holman youth who shared their time and talent outside the classroom.  Alen Henry, a Los Angeles County Probation Officer, chaired the committee charged with providing scholarships to Holmanites.   Unfortunately, he lost his life while on duty and the club dedicated the grant in his memory.

At first, the Alen Henry Memorial Scholarships were $500 each.  Following a series of fundraisers, the amount was increased to $1,000.  The scholarships were established to benefit Holman members, or those recommended by an active one, who are pursuing higher education. To date, nearly 70 have been awarded. The deadline date for all paperwork can be obtained by checking the Holman Sunday Bulletin notices.

Basically, first time applicants need to provide three recommendation letters (only one for subsequent applications),  a current grade transcript, S.A.T./A.C.T. scores, and a one-page typed narrative.  Applications are graded on a point basis, so the more service students render the higher the score.
