Youth Ministries
Brief Description of Ministry / Committee / Board:
The purpose of Youth Ministry is to plan, organize, and implement opportunities for the spiritual nourishment and numerical growth of Middle and High School youth. The youth program seeks to foster disciples of Jesus Christ and to equip young people to grow toward mature Christian adulthood. The youth ministry is committed to the reality that young people are an important and integral part of our church community.
The youth are currently divided between those in Confirmation and those not in Confirmation. The youth in Confirmation meet on the first, second and third Sundays at 8 am. They are studying from a curriculum entitled CREDO. All other youth meet each Sunday during the 8am and 11am Worship services with a curriculum provided by Church School.
The Youth Ministry Director works in collaboration with the Pastoral Staff, Children’s Ministry, Church School and Parents of Youth through regular communications of plans/programs and activities/vision. The director is also responsible for providing an annual Confirmation program as well as working with the Bible Camp Planning Team to provide an annual Bible Summer Camp experience for the youth.
2012 Accomplishments (Activities, etc.):
- An 18-lesson Confirmation course began in October 2012 with 29 youth. It will be completed in April 2013.
- The youth also planned a Friday evening Youth dance and participated in a Friday evening of Hanging With the Pastors.
- Other activities included Bible Summer Camp and Dinner Theater for both an Easter and Christmas program.
2013 Goals / Plans:
In addition to the types of activities mentioned above, Confirmation classes will include community service projects and visiting other denominations in 2013. A Shut-in is also to be planned before the end of the school year.
It is also a goal for the youth to be more actively involved in the FUSE services geared towards young people on the third Sundays at 6pm, as well as attend local and national Youth Conference events.
