Testimonials
The success of the program is evident by what the youth learn by the end of the summer. They not only earn money, but they learn about responsibility in the work place, the importance of doing a job efficiently, and to function and interact with other adults, as well as younger children. Many learn what it is like to work in the office, perform physical tasks or supervise younger children. One of the greatest benefits of the program is youth gaining regular employment with our collaborative partners. Outstanding youth offered employment include: Sirnan Baptist and Breean Sweatt; Los Angeles Urban League and Kamilah Gamble; Children Youth and Family Collaborative.
Here are a few selected quotes included in some of the essays written by the youth.
"Now I am more prone to pay attention to what someone is telling me, because I now know that what they're telling me could help me get a job, and that job may turn into a lifelong career..." -- Christopher Simmons, Age 14
"I am able to see how work life is and how dedicated and persistent one must be to be successful at their workplace. I now know being patient is the key to peace when it comes to problems with kids or any other person." -- Breean Sweatt, Age 16
"My job has made me more focused in school, it makes me treat school like work, meaning to get to class on time, keeping a positive attitude with staff and teachers which helps me along the way." -- Michael Anderson, Age 15
