MINISTRY NAME: Higher Education
Brief Description of Ministry/Committee/Board:
The Mission of the Higher Education Ministry is to nurture and assist students that are continuing their education past high school by continuing to be the church for them as they study at home or away.
Major Activities / Responsibilities:
Since May, 2009 this ministry has sponsored Student Recognition Sunday to present to the congregation those students that have graduated from high school, college and graduate school. These students and former students were the guests of honor at a luncheon provided for them by the church at which time former graduate students gave advice and encouragement to recent college grads, and recent college grads passed on words of wisdom to recent high school graduates.
Care packages have been prepared for each college/graduate student away at school or studying here in the city. These packages were distributed at the end of October and in December as encouragement at exam time.
Currently we are working on church school groups / short-term study opportunities for winter and summer break.
One of the biggest responsibilities of this ministry is to remind our students that they are not only our children, but God’s children as well. We encourage them to reflect that lineage as they continue their education.
